Basil. Neurotic, overbearing, timid, bossy, fawning......the list goes on, and how it is packaged and presented by John Cleese makes him a comic figure that is all to real.

As you're talking of genius, it has to be Basil Fawlty. The interaction between him and everyone else is absolutely hilarious. Delboy is a well rounded likeable character that people can relate to quite well, more of a loveable rogue. They are both excellent comedies but in different ways.

Basil Fawlty! Absolutely brilliant. We humans love watching someone doing nasty stuff. John Cleese did Basil with perfection. British humour at it's best. 12 short weeks and one of the best loved Brit comedies.
Fawlty Towers

Basil Fawlty without a doubt, only 12 episodes made and still as fresh and funny now as the day it was made.

Basil wins by a mile. Only Fools and Horses had a streak of wet sentimentality running through it while Fawlty Towers made us laugh at true despair.

Delboy by far would basil fawlty still have been funny if they had made as many episodes as only fools - i don't think so.

Got to be Basil just looking at John Cleese as Basil is funny. He is soooo believable. Delboy however is pathetic. trying to be jack the lad and not succeeding.

Delboy, I only used to have to look at him and he'd make me smile, and everytime I think about when he falls through the bar opening I can't help but giggle. I'm still trying to figure out how he managed it!
