Whenever i have had this problem it's because your video game has been designed and released with the latest drivers for the video card or mouse.
Look up the website for your video card and download the latest drivers for your card and install them.
This may fix the problem.
Secondary reason could be not enough memory ( not the hard drive ) a lot of modern video games require at least 512 Meg.
Online games like World of Warcraft sometimes need at least 1 Gig of memory to cope with the online demand of your memory.

It could be a bottleneck in accessing your hardrive. Have you checked how much space you have left, try defragging it too. Memory also could be an issue press ctrl, alt and delete and look at how much memory is being used.

If you are using all your memeory windows will 'cache' to the hardrive which far slllloooowwweeerrr then shunting data in and out of memory.

There are several tools that will allow you to identify where the bottle neck is. Check www.shareware.com for performance stuff.

Hope this helps.

the best thing to do is wrap it up in a woolly jumper or blanket and leave it next to a radiator....seems that you must be leaving it in a place where the temperature is under 0 degrees centigrade...hope this helps
