There is a guy in my Algebra II class who just LOVES attention and acts like a funny, but total nutcase. I laughed a couple of times at his some of his jokes, and now he seems to be directing a good deal of attention towards me. For example, at least once every day, when I say or do something, he likes saying something like "You are so smart, Sarah!" which makes me smile a bit (for HOW he says it), then shrug it off. He also likes cracking jokes, and sometimes when he looks at me to see if I show any hint of a smile, he says "I see that smile," and after repeating that a couple more times (after I try hiding it because I'm so introverted) he says "There it is!" And lately he likes singing a little line when he looks at me ("I miss you so") and yesterday he decided to sing a little diddy from West Side Story (Maria's song, "I feel pretty") and he was looking at me the whole time until he reached the "gayyyy!" part (scanned the room).
So, is this typical attention seeking behavior or...?

I wouldn't say he's seeking ONLY my attention (he likes getting everyone's), just giving me special attention... Every day...
I haven't got a crush on him, I just think he's funny and he's confusing me as to why he's giving me this attention... Not sure if it's just because he simply likes testing my reactions (I completely agree with that statement, by the way) or if it gets a little deeper than that.
I guess I would have to find out for myself about that.
P.S.: I welcome more insights before I choose a Best Answer. =)

He's the class clown (I was one), and He's funny ! you are paying attention to him because he is funny, he knows you think he's funny, he likes you, and he's trying to make you laugh because, he knows you're shy (the perfect TARGET for a class clown), I'm still the same way, LOL, HE LIKES YOU ! AREN'T YOU FLATTERED ?????? Most people that are funny, are usually hiding some sort of "HURT", It's our only tool that we posses to keep away "Depression", and it WORKS ! Thank God for "HUMOR" !

Yeah, it seems like it is. Also seems like he's testing your reaction in particular. Maybe, he has a crush on you, which you could encourage, or not. My advise would be no. You seem fairly levelheaded, and still too young to get into the dating mess.
Plus, if the dude's the serious attention-getter type, he'd most likely move on after proving to one and all that he got your attention.
So play it cool....laugh if his jokes are funny, be friends if you want, but leave it at that for now. Focus on the algebra, and enjoy life.

He looks like he is interested by you.
If you are shy, it is like you too are complementary.
Two clowns together come in competition, soon or later.
As for two shy people together, well, do I need to explain?
Now, the main thing is, are you interest in him or is it only nice because you like a good laugh?

Sometimes insecure folks mask that insecurity by being "ON" and putting on a bit of a show or facade.
He may have the hots for you, though. Ask him, if that appeals to you :)
