Both have law degrees. Lawyers act as legal represenitives of their clients. They argue the case of their client in front of a judge. In some casese, a judge decides, in others they just preside over court. A judge is almost always an elected person who has a law degree and was once a lawyer. The judge has the power and control of the courtroom.
