A D AND C is a "dilation and curretage" a procedure done to remove things from a woman's uterus. In my case, I miscarried (my baby did not have a heartbeat) and when I started to bleed they performed a D & C to take all of the fetal remains out. The doctor goes into the uterus through the vagina (there is no surgical wound) and basically scrapes the inside of the uterus and removes tissue. It's kind of like an abortion I think, only in my case the baby never developed.

I think you mean D and C - Dilation and curettage. This involves dilating the uterus (under a general anasthetic) and cleaning out the inside - a procedure commonly known as a scrape.
It is often used after miscarriage to ensure that all the products of pregnancy are removed

I think you probably mean a "D and C". That's medical shorthand for "Dilatation and Curettage" which means dilating (opening up) the cervix (neck of the uterus) while the woman in under general anaesthetic and scraping away the endometrium (lining of the uterus). It's a very common gyneacological operation which is sometimes used to treat endometriosis and heavy periods, but these days is more often used for diagnostic purposes.

It's a procedure to clean out your womb. I had one done after I miscarried and it is a relatively painless procedure, they put you under a general anaesthetic and it takes about half an hour to complete, you can go home the same day as long as you are feeling ok and you have period type pains for a day or two afterwards, hope that helps

In the context of pregnancy, I think you mean 'dilatation and curettage'. It is a medical procedure that is carried out for a number of reasons. For example, it can be used to remove failed pregnancies. The dilatation refers to a widening of the cervix to allow products of conception to be removed, and curettage refers to scraping away the lining of the womb (and the failed pregnancy with it). It is carried out with instruments through the vagina and hence there is no scar on the outside.
