There are several many ways India can become a powerful country:

1) First of all, get rid of all the muslims!!! As long as this disease is in India, nothing positive is possible
2) The government needs to be more effective in tackling all types of corruption. They should promulgate stiffer legislation for corruption, and people who report cases of corruption should be awarded.
3) Education must be made mandatory until 18 years old.
4) the size of the armed forces must be increased two fold and there should be a increase in defence expenditure.
5) The government should make much easier for ordinary people to access education and business loans
6) Indians should be encouraged to "save" more.
7) The millions of people living in poverty should be trained to produce certain goods. Not only shall this enable them to work themselves out of poverty, but it shall be good for the level of Indian exports.
8) India must undertake a much proactive effort to export goods to states, with whom our trade relations remain under developed and under utilised. These include South American, Eastern European and African states.
9) Our strength lies in services. We should balance it out with production and manufacturing.
10) In terms of foreign policy, we should augment relations with the USA, Israel, the EU states and Japan.
11) Bodybuilding and Martial Arts (with a Hindu ethos) must be made compulsory in schools and colleges. This will allow the Hindu man to change the international stereotype of him being a docile weak figure into that of a tough testosterone god.
12) Our economy must be excelled in every way possible. Services, Manufacturing, exports, savings,. At the moment India's natural resources remain ridiculously underdeveloped and under utilised. This includes oil. Oh and btw, the central forests (which Maoist rebels are occupying) are a rich source of aluminium.

Before we Indians can proceed to accomplish the aforementioned. We must examine the encumbrances and obstacles that we face. These include

1) India's unwanted Muslim population
2) Corruption
3) Over population
4) inefficiency in government and bureaucracy
5) apathy on the part of Indians
6) lack of funds, initiative and professionalism
7) lack of patriotism and nationalism among Indians

I really think it already is. How many other countries on the planet do you think the US would be willing to deal with in a nuclear capacity,albeit civilian, without becoming a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
