I have a Muslim friend from Turkey who explained to me that the laws allowing men to marry more than one wife were for economic security after a period of war. So many widows were left without means of supporting themselves, that such marriages were allowed in order to provide for these women to keep them off the streets.

In the Mormon faith, having multiple wives can be more like considering having a nanny, a secretary, housekeeper and a cook like having more than one "wife" as a helpmate.

As for having multiple sexual partners, the only arrangements I would recommend for that is for a married couple to form a committed partnership with another married couple and either swing or swap mates, but within a mutually committed relationship. This is not the same as open swinging, swapping, polygamy, polyamory, triads, etc. but is more like a double marriage.

I think if people feel the need to have more than one partner, pairing up equally is a more stable arrangement than an imbalanced set.

Of course.. in women views.. They're most likely don't want to share their husband with others.. I do understand that, my country, Malaysia do allow polygamy and of course there still some critics towards this practices. Remarried after the death of your spouse also consider as a polygamy. right ?

Polygamy is legal and allow in Islam through Holy Koran and as Sunnah. Even, Prophet Muhammad got more than 10 wives. But, in Koran, men are allowed to marry not more than 4 and he must be fair on them.

Unlike Christians, Bible didn't allow polygamy, but, did you ever read about the King of England ? He got six wives by creating new sect of Christians, Protestant... The main reason, I tell you this that, it's a human nature especially for men to be love by women, so Koran didn't deny it. So, as you could perceived, Allah knows everything, and if, He didn't allow polygamy, our Holy Koran would be altered as Bible.

I'm Muslim guy, a Sunni, I belived in Holy Koran & as Sunnah, I do accept polygamy but I'm not following it coz I would like to have only 1 wife. It depends on men themselves, they make the choice. Insya Allah, I'd already made my choice, 1 plz..

I live in Austria and I know a lot of Turkish people. No, I don't agree with polygamy at all. Whether it be for religious reasons or otherwise. (I am not religious by the way.)
Marriage is supposed to be between 2 people who truly love each other. You can't have 5 wives or husbands and honestly love them all. They just become another posession to you. They will not hold significant value to you.
I say, one spouse. Make that spouse your world, your one and only, and enjoy and love them. That is the whole purpose of marriage.

The men who are taking 12 wife's and doing it for personal pleasure cannot be classed as Muslims as they are abusing the laws of Islam so you cannot blame Islam for there behavior. If you wish to take a few husbands go ahead it is not according to Islam so you won't be any better then the men you mentioned.

Polygamy came about, as Men had to do battle all the time, and there was not an over abundance of young Men, so they had to reassure for Children.
Which is not the case anymore and it is wrong now.

I do not agree with polygamy, but if it were the norm I would like to see that women were treated as equals and have more than one husband as well.

Having more than one wife would be punishment. Some men deserve the punishment of having more than one wife.

Women are smart and stick with one man. Stay that way.

I like your way of thinking.

I think having one wife/husband is better. But, I guess I look at it as a custom that came from the religion---and customs die out hard. It takes time.
