The last good film they made was The Man Who Wasn't There but since then they've been doing remakes and directing other people's screenplays, why?

Did they ever really make good movies? Their stuff is kinda wierd.....the only one I liked was "The Big Lebowski", it was kinda funny. Anyway, they have some stuff in the works right now...

Dunno. Maybe they have hit a dry patch writing wise. They had a great run, so maybe they are due for a slow down. I hope it doesn't last too long though. I did hear that they wrote and will be directing "Hail Caesar", an original script set to star George Clooney, not sure when that will go into production though. It is in pre production now, but truly, that can mean anything. It's been delayed by Clooney's schedule. Another project of theirs , "Suburbicon" was dropped (by them). I guess that we should be patient :)
It's harder and harder to get anything off beat made - that could factor into it too. Not a lot of original screenplays are getting made these days - everyone is hedging their bets and choosing to do adaptations. It's much easier to secure financing for a proven quantity than risk producing and original, from scratch production.
Millers Crossing is my favorite of theirs and is one of my top movies period.

They're making No Country For Old Men, which is an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's book of the same name. I don't know if the Coens wrote the screenplay but, I'm looking forward to it; I love that book. I didn't answer your question, though. Thumbs down me.

Fargo, Blood Simple and Barton Fink are my favs. Nothing great lately, but the Man Who Wasn't There was good, the Big Lebowski is alright, I just don't think you can always be great all the time. I think they've at least two great ones and that's two more than most directors so I can give them a break if all they're doing is having fun lately.
