Of course not, if you burn other fuels without smoke in the house then logs will actually smoke less than coal for example. if smoke is filtering into your room then you:
(a)need your chimney swept,
(b)need to clean your flue or
(c)don't have sufficient draught.
Hope this is help full, there's nothing like a nice open fire, especially in the festive season.

Not if your chimney is clean. You will get a little smell, but not the acred smell. If you have a good "draft", the smoke and smell mostly goes up the chimney. So does a whole bunch of heat. Running a fireplace with a fully open damper will draw air out of a house. This draws the cold air fom whereever it can come in. The result is a toasty room, but a much colder house.

depends on how air tight your house is , and how the wind outside blows. a strong gust of wind down your flue will smoke up the joint. aip purifiers work great to take the smoke smell out an of course some people love the smell of wood on fire. hope it helps you out.

often, yes. It will be worst when the fire is starting or dying down, and when the wood is wet.

ensure your chimney is clean and has a good draft to minimise the impact

According to what you said, it sounds there is nothing wrong with your stove or chimney, maybe you should ask some professional people to check it up totally and solve it.
