First of all, don't judge me. We have been friends and roommates for 3 years, and he has used and taken advantage of me for a long time now, and I've had it. This past weekend was the last straw, and I want him out! So, on December 2nd, he is getting 30 days notice.
Breaking off a friendship and a domestic relationship (he is NOT a lover, BTW) is kind of like getting a divorce. So, basically, I am asking opinions of whether people buy presents for someone they are divorcing, or what is the protocol?
Should I get my soon-to-be-former friend some token Christmas gift? I think since he will still be here for Christmas, it would be mean to have a whole bunch of gifts under the tree, and not one for HIM! That is kind of cruel, isn't it?
So, is anyone else going through anything like a break-up or divorce, but still feels a need to acknowledge the holiday? Thanks for your help and understanding! Legitimate answers only, please!

its to bad you are having roommate problems around the holidays, it sounds that he has been very comfortable living w/you, there aren't to many people out there that can say, that they have had the same roommate for three years, So get passed the arguer, and talk to him about how you are feeling and tell him that you are going to give him a such and such time to move, remember that he also is planning for x-mas and moving out just a week after could be difficult. Go ahead and get him a gift, this split can be on the positive side and still remain friends

You are free to send him out, afterall you are the "landlord"!
But make sure that he gets another place to lodge beforre you take the action, otherwise God may be angry with you.
Even if you eject him, you will still remain friends? If yes, then go ahead and buy him Xmas gifts. This will show you as a child of God and prove that you are not kicking him out with hatred, but that it is done for your peace of mind and in the best interest of both of you.

I can understand why you want to get him something since he's been your friend for several years. If I were in your situation, I would more than likely include him in my holiday gift giving.
