Then tell me why???
Why do buyers bid so damn early and bring up the prices of the items?? Some even outbid themselves. Don't these people know to snipe and bid the last minute of the auction to keep the price down and to win....cheap???

well, actually, you're looking at it wrong.

let's say that you put up an item for bid. your asking first bid is 1 dollar. now, i open that auction and i want it. let's say that i bid $100.00

it will say that the highest bid is $1.00 - in my favor.

now, let's say that no one bids at all, and the auction ends. as far as you know, my highest bid was $1.00 - it doesn't show what my actual bid was.

let's backtrack. let's say that one other person bid on that auction. they bid $20, about an hour after i bid. (i then went to the store to buy groceries). ebay will automatically raise my bid to $21 - in my favor. the bidding history will show my bid at 1.00, the second person's bid at 20, and then it will show another bid from me for 21. the 21 dollar bid will have the same time as my original bid (that's important too)

so it sits at 21 dollars for a few days.. and it's ending in 2 minutes! now, two people go crazy bidding. 34! 56! 71! 83! times up! i will have the highest bid, at 84 dollars. i only bid once - at the beginning.

bidding that early doesn't bring up the price. what brings up the price is when another person bids high as well.

what i don't understand is when items are moderately desired, and there is a listing price of... say 7.99, with a buy-it-now of 9.99. again, this item is regularly wanted, and usually sells for 10.99. why do some of these guys put in a bid at 7.99 when they can BiN for a dollar cheaper than the normal outcome price?

Yes. I agree with you!! It drives me crazy.

I have over 150 wins and never lost an auction.

I bid within the last five minutes with my little secret way and always win and don't bring up my own cost.

However, I can understand if someone does have to 'go to the store' and it's something they really want that they will take the chance and bid like the other answerer suggested. However, that does bring up the price extensively. But...Ebay is happy.

There are no rules to eBay tactics. If you don't like the way other people use it, stop using it yourself. Nobody will shed any tears.

Did it ever occur to you that some of these people might have a plan that you don't know about, and can't work out?
