How do I delete a corrupted folder from my removeable hard drive?

I've tried the following:
1) Left click: "Delete is not accessible The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"
2) Rigth click and delete: "Cannot delete: The directory is not empty"
3) Rename file does not work
4) Format is not an option (too big for my internal hard drive)

What is my options?

I use Windows XP.

Tried the Error checking option, did not work. Got the following: "The disk check could not be performed because the disk utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed only by restatind windows." Did the restart and nothing....

Dos is like unchated territory...I'm a interface user (windows brainwashed :-))

Try checking the disk for errors with the repair option set.

Windows is not able to check for errors on a removeable disk at boot time. You need to make sure that no programs are running from the disk or have files open on that disk.
You should disconnect the disk, restart windows in safe mode, reconnect the disk and then check it for errors while in safe mode.
