I have a 06 Nissan Frontier 6 cyl. and had the oiled changed and the guy put six quarts in it. The owner's manuel only call for 5 liters or just over 5 US quarts. Is 6 quarts of oil going to mess up the engine???

Excess oil = excess oil pressure. Overfilling is BAD, even just a little bit, especially on newer vehicles that run much closer tollerances than older engines. Do as previously advised and check your dipstick level AFTER the vehicle has been sitting long enough for the oil to completely drain from the block and heads into the pan (about 30 min.). If it is above the full line, drain some off by loosening the oil pan bolt SLOWLY until oil begins to trickle out. You can finger tighten the bolt to go back and check the level until it is at the full line, then retighten the oil pan bolt. Too much oil will blow the rear main seal in your block, and very quickly on a Nissan engine. I use to race them, and they are very touchy when it comes to oil pressure. If you find it is actually over filled, don't use the same service location again.

If you are going to buy a used engine, anyway, why not just get the proper one for your Frontier. A salvage yard will be able to tell you if one from a 240sx will interchange, or it may be that you can use one from an Altima, or another Nissan. It would be easiest, however, to find your exact engine, no matter what vehicle it came out of. If you have a KA24 now, put another KA24 back in it.

Yes 6 qts is to much will off set the inner pressure inside the engine which puts more pressure on O rings, gaskets, front and rear seals... Problem is you won't notice the problem for 3000 miles...

Do like "lab" stated Drain off some. Or Just drain out and refill to the full line only...

If rear main seal goes out you have maybe 1 to 2 mins to shut engine off... It will most likely die before you know there is a problem...

Its cheaper to fix what you know is worry right now... Good Luck and Happy motoring...

it sounds about right... i worked at valvoline instant oil change for 2 years and remember a lot of capacities, if you want to be 100% sure just pop your hood and check the oil level, if its just a touch over full it shouldnt harm a thing if its WAY over, stop driving it immediately, call the shop you had it serviced at and let them know why your calling, also see if they are able to come by your place to drop a quart so you dont risk causing damage to your engine

i was an oil man for five years, your owners manual is designed oil capicity for the engine w/o an oil filter installed unless an internal filter is used, old chevys used several different length filters with the same threads but different oil capacities,my suggestion would be to drain about half a qt then re check the dipstick, if in the safe zone leave it... over filling VERY BAD!

No, check the dip stick and see how much over the mark it is. If only a little, don't worry. If a lot, you must drain of the excess or your engine will smoke.
