They don't need a Royal Family. But it doesn't hurt. Its part of the National Heritage.

The Queen keeps the British Government in line.
The Royal family, HM Queen II, have devoted their lives to this country to take it forward for the better, she has been Queen for over 50 years.... if she didn't want to do the role, then she would have abdicated.
It creates stability, it gives us reassurance that if anything goes wrong, she can take those important decision that are best for the people.
We've had royalty for hundreds of years, up to 1000 years? It's a good tourist attraction. A Royal family like ours pays for itself, the latest statistics have shown that it is the equivilent of every Briton paying 60p each a year, thats nothing.
Do we want a president, no, we don't want one person with all the power such as Bush, things are getting bad in America, i think we are fine the way we are thankyou.

Who are you to decide what traditions should or should not be kept. Is it your money? NO, the Royal family work and earn every penny they get. Do you hurt you? NO.. Would you like to destroy all of histories great families? Why not get rid of the Catholic Church, the Church of England while we are at it. Just because something doesn't interest you doesn't give you the right to decide on what is a waste of time or money.

Because idiots think they need someone to look up to. No matter how undeserving those people are. Same thing goes for American celebrities.
Most of the problems in this world will end when people stop hero worshiping these no better than average people with above average wealth.
This is why I never buy Cd's, DVDs, or waste money on celebrity endorsed crap. I will not make American celebrities any richer than they already are.

1/3rd of all tourists to Britain visit Buckingham Palace. (This statistic seems doubtful to me, but I read it somewhere fairly reliable). That speaks for itself, doesn't it?
And besides, I don't like the thought of Tony Blair/Gordon Brown/David Cameron as President. Don't you think it's good for politicians to have to ask a little old lady for permission to do their jobs?

It is part of their national heritage. It is who they are. As far as running the country (any country for that matter) they aren't needed. However, we wouldn't want them telling us we need a King or Queen.
Also, how do you tell someone 'Well, you were royalty but now you're not.'
