If you are not sure about which RAM you need, or you do not know your motherboard model, then you can do a system test at -
www.crucial.com
Its called system scanner, the link is here - http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/
This will identify your system and give you all the compatible/available options to ugrade..
Its a nice tool, obviusly you dont need to buy it from there..... you just need to find out what you need..........

Art major student is nearly correct...
Given your system only has 128mb of ram i doubt you are running on DDr2 ram...
A lot of it depends on how old the system is and what type of ram is required...
as far as i remember the list its sims, dims, nims (which are ddr) and the more recent ddr2 (which as the name suggests is altogether faster and quicker...)
anyway... increasing the ram on your system is very easy to do once you've established what type it is... however if you dont have much in the way of technical knowledge i suggest taking it to a local pc store, they can normally supply the ram and fitting charges are only about 10 pounds (cos its quite an easy job)
If you have a fair knowledge of what your doing... here we go...
firstly open up your pc so you can view the motherboard...
you will find not far away from the processor fan a card (or possibly 2 if you have 2 cards of 64mb ((total of 128)) these cards are about 5 inches tall and about 1 inch deep. These will be held in place with 2 plastic tags top and bottom, unclip these tags and the ram can be pulled out of place)
Now if you have a spare slot already, then dont bother, leave the ram in, the more the merrier right?... ((this is of course assuming your not running on the very old simm system of 2 cards of equal memory to combine into a total, once again check the ram type))
now it also depends how you want to go about making your gig of ram up... wether you want a solid gig ram stick, or 2 512mb sticks... but anyway... make sure you have this ram the right way up and with the plastic toggles still uncliped push it into the slot...
this may take a little effort, but dont worry and eventually you'll see and hear the plastic locking clips engage...
turn your pc on...
if it fails to load you havn't quite got the ram in correctly... so try again.
all going well it should load up and your system will be better for it... but most importantly establish what type of ram your system needs
any q's and feel free to mail me.

Nothing big about it. Buy a new 1 GB chip and replace the 128 MB. Or add a 512 mb ram chip.
It is very simple to put RAM in a PC. I have done it once.

you can buy a new pair of 512x2 ram or a single 1 gb ram.
but 1st you have to make sure that your motherboard supports such capacity.
if its a board with a p4 processor or higher,it'l support upto 2gb.
else spending on the ram will be a waste of money.
if you dont need to work on high end graphics,or if you already have a decent 128 or 256mb graphics card,a 512mb upgrade is all that you'l require.

First, find out if your motherboard takes DDR1 or DDR2 Ram. Buy RAM in the same amount, for example, don't buy sticks of 256 or 512 RAM if you want to add more RAM to your 128 RAM. If you want to upgrade to 1 Gig of RAM, buy either two sticks of 512 if you think you will upgrade to 2 Gig of RAM later on. If not, buy four 256 sticks of RAM if you only want 1 Gig of RAM.

go to
http://www.crucial.com/uk
One of the links on the main screen will say 'Scan my system'. This will then tell you what configuration you currently have and make suggestions as to what memory to purchase.
Crucial is also very resonably priced for memory and delivery is normally free.
