I myself have never studied the art of illusion, but some of the things he does are truly scary. His name : Criss, from Christopher (Christ) + Angel, is a thought-provoking appellation. In the time of Moses Pharoah had court magicians that could do similiar miracles to what Moses and Aaron did i.e. the sticks to snakes, and the levitating wizard Simon Magus who lived during Jesus' time. I do believe in demons and angels, and I have long suspected that Criss Angel may be one of the "false prophets" said to appear during the end times, or may have a Skin-rider attached to him i.e. demonic possession. Of course, it could all be technological tricks and mirrors.

Next time you see him do this illusion, watch carefully how he positions himself in relation to the camera. Pay particular attention to his feet.

You'll notice that the foot farthest from the camera is completely hidden by his other foot and leg. (If it isn't, then he likely has a false top on that shoe to make it look like his feet don't move.) He then lifts himself using the hidden foot as if he's doing a calf raise exercise or standing on his toes. It's over so fast, the observer (you) doesn't get a real good look at his feet. You'll also notice that he doesn't do this illusion wearing shorts or any other garment that would allow you to see his calf flexing.

The rest is all just theatrics. It's pretty good theatrics and he's pretty good at them but still, it's all smoke and mirrors.

(Criss Angel once did this gag in Dallas in Daly Plaza. In the show, the shadow of his hidden foot was fairly clear on the ground.)

Well, because he performs for his telivision show, it is widly believed that the people who witness his 'magic' and act all shocked are paid actors, and it's all smoke and mirrors. Otherwise, if he were indeed levitating, I'm assuming it's because he has a strong spiritual side. Monks have been known to levitate. However I tend to believe it's trickery because I don't think people that spiritual publisize it.

He puts himself into some sort of trance. Its not hard to do if you know what you are doing. A lot of people will tell you there's some trickery to it but I know I've levitated before myself and its not that difficult.
