Our solar system is located in the outer reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is a spiral galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy contains roughly 200 billion stars. Most of these stars are not visible from Earth. Almost everything that we can see in the sky belongs to the Milky Way Galaxy.

The sun is about 26,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is about 80,000 to 120,000 light-years across (and less than 7,000 light-years thick). We are located on on one of its spiral arms, out towards the edge, called the "Orion Arm".

It takes the sun (and our solar system) roughly 200-250 million years to orbit once around the Milky Way. In this orbit, we (and the rest of the Solar System) are traveling at a velocity of about 155 miles/sec (250 km/sec).

The centre of the Milky Way Galaxy lies in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius.

the diameter of our milky way is about 10^5 ligiht yrs. the sun is in the central plane at a distance 27,000 light yrs from the centre. the thickness of the disc is about 5000 light yrs at the centre and about 1000 light yrs near the sun and diminishes as we reaches the edges. the sun is moving at the speed of 250 km/s revolves abt the centre of galaxy in abt 220 million yrs.

It is inside one of the spiral arms of our mirrored image of a hurricane looking galaxy. Like what you see when a full sink of water drains out, it starts to spiral.
