Looking for where ancestors may have been baptised. The only details I have are Alverstoke. Other children were baptised in a catholic church but parents and some descendents were baptised Church of England.

Firstly, I've attached a link to GENUKI showing where the records for the village may be found, together with a little background about the village itself (see link 1).

The church at Alverstoke is dedicated to St. Mary and the earliest known reference to it is in 1122. As with many churches, it has subsequently been modified and added to - indeed it is perfectly possible that it was entirely rebuilt in 1625. I have attached a link (link 2) to a history of the church and please note that this page contains a link to the parish records.

As regards the parish records - all the known records of St. Mary's Church and the Parish of Alverstoke from 1559 to the present day are held at the City Records Office in Portsmouth, and they can be found there under Reference Code CHU42. These records include all Registers for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, including layouts of the old graveyards. The categories of records held there, and their corresponding reference codes, can be viewed by following the link on the church history page.
Microfiche copies of these records can also be seen at Gosport Library, in the Reference Section. Opening hours and address of the library can be found on their web page.

The only records now held in the Parish are those in current use. For further information please contact the Portsmouth City Records Office at the address below, or see their web site, or view the records at the Gosport Library:

Museum Road,

Good luck with your search for your ancestors.
