I come outside, and I see an african-american waiting for a cab, I needed a cab as well and I got one before he did. I was wondering why its harder for black people to catch a cab and is this true or mere coincedence?

This is going to sound racist so please forgive me. My father drove a cab for seventeen years in this time he was robbed about 10 times and about 8 of these times were by black men. You have to realize most cab drivers are lower class uneducated racist white men. Also it is hard for any person to catch a cab if they are dressed grungy because they don't appear to have any money. And in todays society it is still harder for a black man to get out of poverty compared to how easy it is for a white man.

John, that's interesting. You see one guy waiting for a cab and just because you caught one before he did, you assume all black people have a hard time catching a cab. LOL!

I've been all over the states, attending various conventions and have NEVER had trouble hailing a cab. So, apparently, this is a mere COINCIDENCE.

What I am going to say is not anything against the black community, but I will tell you the truth. They are scared of getting robbed and they feel that blacks tend to be the perpetrators. That being said, I am not saying that all blacks are bad (Even Danny Glover couldn't get a cab in NYC) just as not all of any race is bad, but right or wrong, that is how they feel. (I know lots of cab drivers in NYC.... even black cab drivers don't like to pick up blacks.)

This is not a true, a cab driver is a businessman, and he won't chose certain people over another if he wanted to make money.

People like you see ONE THING, and make it like if it happens to all Black people in general. Get a f u c k i n g life.

Cab drivers say that Black People (not all) are poor tippers or don't tip at all. I know black cab drivers who prefer not to pick up black people for that reason. Cab drivers drive for money, it's as plain as that.

Prejudice towards a certain race =

Racism

Plain & Simple.

lol when Tiger declared he was of Cablasian ancestry...a black woman wrote something along the lines of, It's not that we want to take your right to identify as you wish, Tiger, we just don't think your self identified title will make it any easier to hail a cab.

Unfortunately, some people tend to judge according to stereotype and do not allow room for personal experience--after angering that customer, they might even be inclined to say that the reaction that followed is what is expected of "those people" whoever those people may be...sometimes, it seems that the cycle is endless...

Because a lot of drivers are new migrants with a set of preconceived notions about races they have never been around with. They listen to the words of other migrant drivers and base their judgements on a whole race of people from that.

maybe the cab drivers think that people who aren't African American tip better?
