Perhaps yes... may be no..... but I am not too keen to find out as of now...... and hope the same is the case with you!!

Seriously, it does not look likely that things will become drastically different on the date of death.... on the contrary there seems to be a seamless transition happening in nature all the time which means nothing at all disrupts the rhythm .... in other words, even though we may feel so, death is not an out of place or irrelevant or volcanic kind of event which can have any out of the way significance in this universe or nature. So I think we may not know it when we die.

The most important word in your question is "when". If you are just asking if death will be a conscious experience, I think that it likely will be if you are awake when it happens. On the other hand, some researchers who study NED (Near Death Experiences), insist that even for those who are unconscious when their vital signs disappear, do experience their own deaths. If you want to see what some of these researchers have to say take a look at:

To be honest, I'm just not sure what happens at the moment of death. I guess you can't really know without having died yourself. I guess we just have to take the advice of Phoebe from Friends, "Go toward the light...Go toward the light" And hope that it isn't the light of an oncoming train.

The bible says that the dead are conscious of nothing at all, that they are asleep until they are resurrected.Ecclesiastes Chapter 9 Verse 5 says that the living are conscious that they will die but the dead are conscious of nothing at all then we rely on our creator to bring us back to life again.

Answer 2- 'Wake up dead'? Ha! I'm starting to think more and more that death is just the end of it all. Of course I'd like too think that I would be reunited with loved ones that have passed but haven't you ever woken from one of those sleeps that were so deep that you totally forgot that you even existed and it didn't even matter until you woke up? Well, I think it might be just like that. Only one way to find out of course!

Will we know it when we die should be your 2nd question.

Do you know that you are alive is the first question one must ask themselves.

To find out stick a fork in you. If you don't say ouch your are done!

The last time I died I did not say ouch and knew it was over.

So the answer to your question is ouch!

If you can remember where you were before you were born, then you may have a take on what's next?

Sure!!! the conscious mind does not cease to think even while dying.....

Another thing to keep in mind, is the body may know it is "giving up the ghost"..... but the spirit, does not know the concept of death.....

it depends what you die of... if you get shot in a critical part of you, you will know you are dying...
but if you have a stroke while you are sleeping,
you just wake up dead
