As everyone has stated, MPG means Miles Per Gallon. Just in case you, or someone else, isn't sure what the term 'Miles Per Gallon' means, in the example 17mpg city/ 23mpg hwy, the sticker is saying you should be able to travel 17 miles on one gallon of gas in the city, and 23 miles on one gallon of gas on the highway. So, ten gallons of gas in the city meas you can go 170 miles (10 X 17), and 230 miles (10 X 23) on the open road. City driving always results in lower mileage since you are stopping and starting at red lights, and it takes more energy (fuel/gas) to get a vehicle moving from a dead stop, and to accelerate, than it does to keep it moving on a level surface once you're up to speed.

Miles Per Gallon - This is a measure of how fuel efficient the car is. The higher the number, the farther you'll go on a gallon of gas. Be a little wary of the stickers on cars, as some manufacturers are more optimistic in their estimates than others.

Miles per gallon...as everyone else has said. The sticker on the car, however, is based on EPA estimates. They're usually pretty accurate (that is, highway is 55 mph on a completely flat and straight road, at sea level. City is 35 mph under the same conditions.) The EPA estimate is the BEST gas mileage you can possibly get.

Assuming you have a very economial motor vehicle first of all, there are straightforward issues to do. do no longer carry extra stuff on your motor vehicle than you honestly desire. The lighter the motor vehicle the extra effective. make certain your tires are exact inflated. the better the stress in a tire reasons much less floor component of the tire to be on the line way. I run mine 3-5 lbs over the stated PSI score on the tire, yet I in basic terms do this with sturdy, call variety tires. I wouldnt attempt it with wal-mart specials. make certain your motor vehicle is aligned exact, a misaligned motor vehicle reasons extra drag. make certain your brakes are in appropriate working order, returned, dragging brakes creates drag. verify your automobiles filters, plugs, wires, belts, etc are in tip precise shape. Dont purchase low value gas, there are fuels that dont burn as nicely as others. you pays a sprint extra on the pump, however the postpone in maintenance periods will pay off because of the fact grimy or non burning fuels go away deposits on air passages no longer bearing in mind the main excellent burn. Your using behavior are additionally a sturdy factor to artwork on. in case you're city using, watch for the subsequent easy, if its purple, no reason to haul azz to it only to watch for it. If the subsequent easy is green, is the crosswalk easy flashing purple? if so, its gonna turn your easy purple quickly, 13 flashes is the norm previously the easy turns, count quantity them, if a classic acceleration wont get you in the time of the easy, then improve up certainly and coast to the subsequent easy. Its all straightforward stuff.
