And here is a link on the bluing that was mentioned. When I sold insurance and had to wear white shirts every day, this is what was used in the laundry. We also used LOC from Amway to get out blood stains from nose bleeds, but I don't know if that's available any more.

Bleach works, but is harsh on your shirts. You can also use a substance called "blueing" or "bluette". It actually adds more blue tint to your whites, making them 'look' whiter,because it counteracts the yellowish cast they tend to take on...

If its solid white, use bleach when you wash it. But don't put bleach on something that has color too, I ruined a bf's shirt doing that!

Put some Cascade dishwasher detergent in the machine when you wash it. I don't know why this works but I know several chefs that do that to keep their tops sparkling.
