From your personal experience, either though residence or travel, tell me about life in Washington State. I have looked all over the State (online) at real estate and for employment and now wish to know more about the different areas.

Any information about the quality of life, physical environment, social aspects, culture, ect... would be great. Travel tips for my wife and I, great must see areas, would also be of great help.

Best place to live? work? play?

Thanks !

live - depends on your preferences. The western most peninsula and the Cascades are good if you like a town of 100 people... If you like a mix of farmland, nearby mountains, islands, etc, and the big city not TOO far away, Skagit county is pretty good. Whatcom county is good if you like fairly large cities with a mix of some local suburbs.

work - well pretty much every place has some profession in which to make a living, but for variety you'd have to go with a big city like Seattle.

play - if you are single, then Seattle, if you are not single, then anywhere.

Seattle is the best to work, well to find a job. there are a ton of cool little towns around seattle. There are also a bunch of icky towns such as: tacoma, everett, Kent. The Pennisula is amazing but most the towns are remote and small. Unless you looking for a character building move don't try eastern washington, while there are forest in western washington most of eastern washington is a desert. There are so many great places to hike, and camp. Seattle is great for city things like Pike Place market, shopping, the ferries, emp and the space needle. Mt Rainer is awesome. The San Juan islands are great. Everyone is pretty nice, they don't know how to drive in snow but they;ll help you with directions.

If you settle down in the Seattle area then you have the Cascade mountains to your East, the Olympics to your West, and the Puget Sound and the amazing Orcas Island chain to your Northeast (and supposedly one of the largest ferry systems in the world). You can expect very distinctive seasons, lots of rain (especially this month- we broke the all-time record for this state). If you like hiking, skiing, biking, or most other outdoor-activities, Washington is totally ideal.
