I totally think it can. Lyrics in music is representative of the culture of those who listen to it.

For instance, 'gangstas' listen to rap, and if you listen to rap you can learn an (over exagerated) example of life as a 'gangsta'.

Music can convey knowledge, but the types of music can determine what sorts of knowledge can be conveyed to someone.

I think music with lyrics can work pretty much the same way as literature. The messages are conveyed not through words written down on paper, but expressed through voice with music that accompanies it. Suppose that lyrics goes like, "this land is your land" it is conveying a certain knowledge concerning a piece of land and to whom it belongs. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is not exactly the music that is conveying the knowledge.

It borrows some ideas from Philosophy of Language, but the knowledge expressed in the example above takes a cognitive use of proposition. Cognitive use of proposition (simply sentence) occurs when you make a sentence to describe something. I.e. Water freezes at freezing point is another example of a cognitive use of proposition.

Whether or not mysic without lyrics can convey knowledge is another thing to look into. For example, when you listen to Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozard, you won't probably feel sad; perhaps you will find it quite soothing or relaxing. Suppose that you find it joyful, it is not because each key in the music is saying anything joyful to you nor is there any lyrics that accompanies it. Yet, yet as a whole music, it has an ability to move your emotions. Similarly, when you listen to music that makes you feel sad, it is not because each key is sad. In short, music as a whole has an ability to appeal to emotion.

Any statement that expressed emotion is, when written down as a sentence, it is a non-cognitive use of proposition. For example, "I love you." This is not just a stating of a fact, but expression of certain emotion and it is used non-cognitively. What matters the most is what is being expressed through such a sentence rather than what a sentence is about itself.

To cut it real short, music conveys knowledge that is a lot closely related to emotional insights; or emotional insights themselves. To rephrase it, music provides not the knowledge associated with cognitive use, but knowledge associated with non-cognitive use: which is rather a special kind.
