Most bettas are relatively inexpensive. Try aquabid.com. Or any petstore, as people have mentioned, will sell bettas for 3-6$.
However, if 6$ cost of normal bettas as a petstore is so great that you have to look for even cheaper bettas, I don't know that you are prepared for the respondibility involved in keeping a fish.
Anyway, good luck in finding one, and please be sure to do your research beforehand. Above all, do NOT keep it anything less than 2 gallons. 5-10 gallons with a heater and filter is preferable (this also means less work for you because if you keep your betta in a 2 gallon tank with no filter, you'll need to replace ALL the water every few days - in a tank with heater and filter, you can just take out half the water and put some new water back in).

Betta's are easy to come by, if you truely want one I'm sure you can find an alternative to shipping one in a bag across the country.
5 bucks at walmart?

for anyone that says shipping is cruel its not really you figure they stay at the live aquaria place in a waaaaaay bigger tank then they would at the pet store and then they ship them in a bag with heaters/coolers with enough oxygen for the ride
you figure they get shipped anyway to the pet store
