x + 4y = 2

x + 4y - 4y = 2 - 4y

x = 2 - 4y

- - - - - - - - - - -

y values

x + 4y = 2

x + 4y - x = 2 - x

4y = 2 - x

4y/4 = 2/4 - x/4

y = 1/2 - 1/4x

3x + 12y = 6

3x + 12y - 12y = 6 - 12y

3x = 6 - 12y

3x/3 = 6/3 - 12y/3

x = 2 - 4y

- - - - - - - -

y values

3x + 12y = 6

3x + 12y - 3 = 6 - 3x

12y = 6 - 3x

12y/12 = 6/12 - 3x/12

y = 1/2 - 1/4y

- - - - - - - -

x = 2- 4y are the same for both equations

y = 1/2 - 1/4x are the same for both equations

These two equations are on the same line and there are infinitely many solutions.The equations are dependent.

Dude you should really do your own homework.
Solve the first equation for x. (x=2-4y)
Substitute the value for x (that is 2 - 4y) into the second equation and solve for y. This will give you a number.

You will have to do the rest.

actually y= (2+x)/4
getting x is relatively easy

the system will have any number of solutions as the lines are coincidental as per y=(2-x)/4 or
x=2(1-2y)
