Let her know by law after the baby is born they do drug screening on the baby. If they baby has any traces of any drugs or alcohol in his or her system she will lose her baby. No questions asked.

I am not saying that it is okay to smoke pot, so don't get me wrong. I had a friend that did this very thing. Her baby was born as healthy as can be and she is super smart. I quit smoking cigarettes the day i took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Everyone is different. You can't make someone stop doing something. But if her baby does come out with any defects, a true friend would still be there for her no matter what. Don't say things like I told you so or anything. It would only make her feel that much worst (which she should) but you know what I mean. Pray for your friend if you are a religious person and leave it at that. I wouldn't be around her while she is smoking though. Good luck!

Call a doctor office and ask if they have any literature on this or print out some info from some websites like webmd. Then give it to her. If she is still too stupid to "get it" there is nothing else you can do for her.
Here is something from Web MD to show her.
Marijuana May Harm Fetus
Smoking Marijuana While Pregnant May Harm Baby's Brain By Jennifer Warner

March 25, 2003 -- Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may cause lasting behavioral and mental defects in the child. A new study in animals suggests that children who are exposed to marijuana in the womb may suffer from a variety of long-term problems even if they aren't born with obvious birth defects.
Researchers say that although marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug among women of childbearing age, little is known about the side effects of prenatal exposure to marijuana. They say previous studies have produced conflicting results because it's difficult to account for potential contaminants frequently found in marijuana and contributing effects of other drug and alcohol use.
In this study, researchers examined the effects of exposure to an artificial component of marijuana called WIN in the offspring of rats who received the synthetic cannabinoid while pregnant. The mother rats received a daily injection of the drug that was comparable to a low-to-moderate marijuana dose inhaled by a human smoker.
The results are published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Do the research for her. Find all the negative effects that it has on the childs development. SMoking alone, not to mind you weed, hurts the baby enough. Find what stage the brain and lung development are of the pregnancy. Find the approximate size of the baby now in her uterus and give her an example. Make her realize she is growing a human inside of her and her ignorance and selfish ways are hurting a life that cannot stand up for itself yet to tell her she is complete idiot. Take her to a NICU (neonatal intensive Care unit). My sister is an RN in one. Show ur friend the causes of dumb decisions (in some cases) what a 2 pond baby looks like in an isolated room insde a tube. That might help.

You should do nothing at all,,,I know the moral dilemma, and it's bothering me right now just thinking about it. I'm a labor and delivery nurse of 15 years,,,and the addicted babies that are in my Neo-Natal ICU, breaks my heart....You are pregnant yourself, and the stress will affect you if you take on too much...
Legally speaking now, in all states what this girl is doing is called Child abuse and indangerment...if she were reported, (by anyone) to her Doctor, or child services, she would be checked randomly each week by a court order to do a Mandatory drug test. And if she tests postitive, she will more than likely, depending on the state's laws, and her family circumstances, she will have the child taken away from her after delivery, and then, she can not have that child back until she tests Negative for drugs for a certain period of time....By the way, how old is the woman, who told her that feeding a drug like THC, to a 6 ounce fetus was legal, and ok to have this baby feed drugs directly into his/her little blood stream...God I just get so disgusted sometimes. I wonder why Im still doing this work. She needs to go on a day trip with someone to the local hospital, and go up to the NICU floor and see what a little 4 or 5 pound body goes thru, placed on Methadone IV for 30 days to help them with the withdrawl....and this is with Pot, Percocet, Cocaine, Meth, anything we suspect, our staff isn't as dumb as these mothers think,,,she can try and trick the urine test to pass all she wants,,,the blood work done one the infant is delivered will tell us the entire last 30 days of what the baby had ingested...and when the baby is delivered, arms extented, screaming from the withdrawl pain,,,(pain for them is horrific!!!) Yes, even from 10 months of TCH, in the womb. She has NO LEGAL RIGHT in any state with the laws today, to force drugs on this child....For her to state it doesnt hurt the Baby???? It just goes to show how its already affected her brain cells...she could even be placed in jail. Do what you think is best without getting overly involved and risking your own health, and that's all you have to say, giving your name is not forced. Your only worried for the childs welfare...and you know its not right....by Law ) by the way,,,,its a shame she doesnt realize what a wonderful friend you are! Good luck,,,and Bless you for having such a good heart.....Joi

Wow.
First, is she seeing a doctor? If not, help her get an appointment with one. Go with her if nobody else will. Try to make sure she indicates on the medical history that she smokes marijuana. Then the doctor will explain all the risks and things to her. If she's already got one ask whether he/she KNOWS about the drugs.
If that doesn't work, look online for information about the effects drug use can have on a fetus. Show it to her.
If all that fails, I really don't know what else you can do. Call Child Services? The police, and have her arrested for possession? At least she couldn't smoke while she's in jail waiting for her hearing. Get together with whoever she lives with, and try to prevent her from getting marijuana in the first place? If she's a minor, her parents could send her to rehab. Rehab might be a good choice even if she's an adult ... if you can get her to agree, Medicaid might pay if she has no insurance, since she's pregnant.

Its too late.
Be there to help out.
You can tell her now that she's placed herself and her baby on a very hard path in life with very little by way of happy endings. But when the baby arrives, no wagging fingers or I told you so's. She will need you more than she herself thought she would.
Selfishness, reaps its own reward.
You, on the other hand, had tried what you could. You are a good friend. Those supporting her habit aren't.

I know for a fact that smoking during pregnancy can cause Attention Deficit Dissorder ADD, so the baby might appear normal when born but will soon show signs of trouble in his/her learning and development. Your friend is extremely ignorant to what she is doing and the world is unfortunatly filled with people as inconsiderate as this. My advice to you is: dont be friends with her if she continues this behavior becuase she will only bring you down in life, one way or another. If she cares for her child this way, how is she going to treat you?

Ask her if you can go to her next doctor's visit with her. When there bring up smoking weed and let her listen to what the doctor has to say.
She just sounds too selfish to actually care about the side effects. Everything you put into your body can have an affect on your unborn child.

i have friends that smoked pot threwout the pregnancy that didnt give a second thought to what it would or could do to their babie.
A couple escaped without anything wrong one friends babie was born with disfigured pinky fingers that are permenantly bent and cannot straighten and one friends babie would cry all night and day the doctor said this is because the babie was use to constantly breathing in pot in other words was like a drug addict that couldnt find pot and was hanging out for more!!
the sad thing is these mothers dont think of the consequences until it is too late,if you have tried all you can and she sticks to smoking pot there is nothing more you can do,maybe try getting her to listen to these frightning stories or find videos on this that you can watch togeather that can hopefully change her mind,at the moment she is only thinking of herself

should you really have to worry about this perso at a time like yours? It will do no good for you.. I doubt there is anything you can say to change her mind.
You don't wnt to look back on your pregnancy and remember how much you had to worry for your friend. I hope she doesn't smoke around you.
Direct her to a website that liststhe dangers of smoking anything during pregnancy. Tell her that if she honestly believes it is doing no harm to the baby, she's a moron.. no.. Not just a moron.. A Selfish moron.
