For a start, the term 'assembly line' didn't come into being until the 20th century with Henry Ford and it had nothing to do with the Industrial Revolution, if we take that as covering the period say 1775-1850. Generally, however, the word 'artisan' is taken to mean a skilled workman who would either be able to manufacture goods on his own account or for an employer and thus be able to command higher wages, and ergo, a better way of life, than an unskilled worker, into which definition many working on an assembly line would fall
