I think the line between all three of those variations gets a bit blurry sometimes. Though generally, I'd have to stick to political and somewhat more modest mainstream artists, if nothing else because my exposure to underground is fairly limited right now. KRS-One has always been my favorite MC, but lately I've gotten into a lot of Common, older Nas and The Roots. At the same time though, I'm not going to be one to deny the talents of Jay-Z or DMX or anyone truly worthwhile at that level.

Hip-Hop is at it's best when it's diverse. Back in the late '80s & early '90s you could see NWA, MC Hammer, A Tribe Called Quest, 2pac, De La Soul, Ice Cube, Eric B. & Rakim, and KRS-One all on the same shows and hear them on the same radio stations. I think all of it's good, when it's done right, but nowadays , it's so seldomly done right.

commercial rap seems to be more entertaining, it doesnt seem to have as much depth as underground does. But I often feel that underground is too much for myself. I really like politcal, I feel like the artist is truly sharing something deep about themselves and I feel it takes a lot more talent to rap about that then to just rap about getting "bitches" and smoking pot.

I don't like rap because rap is all about ego and it is just a competition of the most shallow lifestyles!
