Hi all. I will like to set up a lan gaming network for 4 people at my place. Assuming I have 4 comps with lan cards and the game installed. Thanks!

Each machine will nead to have a NIC (network interface card) installed. The cheapest and fastest way would be to buy four Cat 5e ethernet cables and network the machines together using a Hub, Router or Switch. If you have Windows XP, you're done. Windows XP will automatically configure the network for you. If you have an earlier version you'll have to go to Network Places and add a network, on each machine.

Good luck and have fun.

One more piece of hardware: home routers; assuming you are aiming at doing a foolproof and painless setup; also associated wires unless you are referring to WiFi cards.

I can point out other methods like buying hubs and so on; but the labour of hook up network wire is easy in comparison to the logistics of configuring computers for networks.

The only thing you need if the computers already have LAN cards is a router

verify your LAN gadget (community card) properties. See if NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios well suited delivery protocol is isntalled, if no longer, you will desire to deploy it. that's usually the user-friendly situation why many desktops on LAN would desire to no longer see one yet another (in case you woudl deploy it, is would desire to be got here upon on Protocol classification)
