It's set in WWII, and a boy finds a downed German bomber, with some dead crew aboard, and hides it's whereabouts from everyone. Somehow ends up using one of the machine guns from the plane. Just can't remember the title, and is driving me mad, any help would be appreciated...

The book is called "The Machine Gunners" and I can't to the life of me remember who wrote it. I read it in school.

It is called 'The Machine Gunners'. I can't remember who wrote it, but it was made into a children's TV series as well.
