I was just wondering what everyone thought of the Southern Accent. I have been born and raised a TEXAN. So if I went to any state in the north, What would you think of my accent?

No offense, but I don't l like it. This is not against you in any way, as you're probably a nice person, but the southern accent really grates my ears. I know my accent is not all that great either (New Yorker) but Southern just doesn't do it for me. When a Southerner opens his/her mouth, negative images pop up in my head. Sorry.

Oh, and don't listen to Julie from California. Most people from California think they're ahead of the curve and better than everyone else. I don't know why they think that way. Perhaps it's something in the water. Heh.

I heard it (south accent) came from whites imitating negroe slave speech when at first they (the slaves) learned English. Don't know if it's true.
But it depends on the person. Some can wear an accent attractively, cute. Some others sure can't. Am I right?

I would say to you; You're a cute sounding Southern Belle. The kind I'd like to have. Why don't you jump on my back or in my automobile and I'll give you ride into the sunset. But,not if you're like the ones on Jerry Springer.

I think the southern accent makes you sound unrefined.
Redneck comes to mind.
Or someone uneducated, who can't even pronounce words.

it's funny I'm from Alabama and i just moved to Delaware. people love my accent, but they tend to talk loud and lean in like I'm slow. lolololol i actually have an extensive vocabulary, but southern = stupid to them. the assumption is we all live in trailer parks and that we never graduated high school.

Have to say, it sounds lazy. It sounds like you cannot pronounce the entire word. I think about President Bush. He does a poor job giving speeches, answering questions. His message gets lost in the drawl.
