Contrary to most people, I love my alone time. I actually MAKE UP excuses frequently to not go to parties so I can chill at home or go for a walk alone, or whatnot.
Plus I enjoy eating alone. When people ask to hang out, I make up excuses like "I don' t feel good" or "I'm tired" to avoid them? I think it's increased since I got to college? What's up with this?

Also, I'm female, but I hate chitchat. It really bugs me and makes me feel like i have to put in loads of effort to feign interest.

I am the exact same way. I know I am like that because I feel that I always have to put up my guard with people. I don't feel safe showing people who I am truly am because when most people see a nice person, they like to walk all over you like a rug or they just hate on you. There are so many people that have so much drama in their life, that they want to contaminate yours with their nonsense. I like to be alone to stay away from all the drama. When I was in college, I had my goals in mind and knew if I got mixed up with the wrong crowd, I could lose focus and get off track of passing my classes and achieving my goals.

I have never really gotten along with women either at home or in my work environment. I tend to stay alone alot. I like going for walks. I seem to block out conversations and disassociate when I am reading or writing. They used to say that was why I was a good employee. My work was steady and so were my thought processes. After awhile this feeling might go away but right now just enjoy being where you are.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting alone time.I was very content living alone. I occasionally enjoy having people visit but most often I go visit them; that way I have the control over when its time for me to leave. Some of us are just wired for a more solitary life than others. I enjoy having the time to think and ponder questions about myself and nature and just enjoy the sounds of nature around me. So enjoy.

hey! I love my alone time too. :) and being at home is the most wonderful feeling. but as much as I enjoy it, sometimes I do wanna go out and hang out. so I guess there should be a balance. if you've friends that you really click with, try to make time to see them, or hang out maybe at your place from time to time. either way, I know I shy away from certain folks cos I'd rather be alone some place else. at times being with crowds can get very tiring.
since you're in college, you should enlarge your circle of buddies too. but keep time to yourself too cos its during these alone times that you can recollect your thoughts and be at your most relaxed self. :) remember, have some balance in the things you do, you'll be fine.

Hey, you've got a brain, and sometimes you like to be able to hear yourself think. I suspect the statistics on intelligence and those who cherish solitude would show a strong positive correlation.

i get like that sometimes. I think you're just the type of person that likes your own company. I'm not good with psychology terms but i think it's called introverted. You can type it in on wikipedia.com

me too! I like my home, and like to just sit with my cat, or hike alone, or go to walmart alone. I like other people, too, as long as I dont have to entertain them. If they can be fairly quiet and not jabber all the time, I dont mind them visiting me. but when they have to come and invade my peace and quiet, I want them to go home.
