had a uniform in elementary and middle school. The school didnt care about shoes, except they had to have a heel and a toe. My high school had a dress code but no uniforms. We arent supposed to have cell phones either.

Uniforms...white shirt with a blue tank skirt. Looks more like wearing an apron.

For Winter:
Its a Green checkered skirt with a long sleeve white buttoned top/white polo shirt
Dark blue Jumper, with the vermont badge on it
For summer:
Blue checkered thin summer dress..buttoned
its sad ...not fashionable..

When I was in school (I graduated in 2003 in California) We had a dress code. We didn't have to wear uniforms, but our dress code was the following:
No open-toed shoes
No mid-drift shirts
No short shorts (they had to go past our fingertips when we had our hands to our sides)
Our tank tops straps had to be 2 inches wide
No cell phones/CD players, etc.
No gum
No hats
No chains on your pants/wallet
Basically my school was strict...we couldn't do much, along with closed campus lunch and they now have metal detectors for when you go into the school (that came after I graduated).

I went to public school and were not forced to wear uniforms.
As someone who was teased all her life on her clothing, i still am not for school uniforms. I think that by forcing kids to wear uniforms u are foring them to conform to a social norm. Granted outlying kids would get made fun of, but at least you know who your true friends are. even after school when you hang with your girls and they are wearing aeropostal and you are wearing target brand clothes, they will still make fun of you and pressure u to change and get "cooler clothes"
Also when teachers use to tell my parents that schools need to start forcing kids to wear uniforms because it prepares us for the future workforce...they responded that i was going to be a marine biologist, so raggy pants and oversized hoodies with red hats were my future dresscode. :)
