I don't know if most women have to, generally it makes delivery go alot faster though. They do give you a shot but trust me you'll be so into contractions and pushing that you'll never know when they do it. It takes a little while to heal, you'll be sitting funny for about 2 weeks (atleast) and I wanna say it takes about 4-6 to heal enough to have sex again (depends on the woman too). Do kegal's they do help alot

Not all women get this, but usually is done as a precaution to tearing, which will be harder to repair and heal. I'd say about 2-3 weeks to heal.
I have not heard of a shot for episiotomy, although it could be true. There is so much pressure down there that when it is time for the episiotomy I don't think you will feel it. Also if you are having an epidural. (which i recommend lol ) that will take the place of the shot. A sitz bath will help you heal and not itch so much when the stitches are drying out. The nurses will help you with all these questions as they happen.
Just remember, a Beautiful Baby is at the end of all this!!!

Episiotomies are very rarely needed during birth, although they were the norm for many years; that is, thankfully, changing. They do *not* heal faster or prevent worse tearing. If you have a doctor who has a high episiotomy rate, find a new doctor, as they are not practicing evidence-based medicine!

When the baby's head is pressing on the perinum, you will not feel an episiotomy done during a contraction, as the baby's head is cutting off the blood supply. So anaestheic is not normally used. You will want a shot for the repair, though.

Absolutely not! Episiotomies are thankfully becoming a barbaric procedure of the past.
Allowing the tissue to tear naturally and then stitching after birth is the better choice, as the tissues are less likely to tear as deep. Most women will tear even after they've had an episiotomy performed, so it proves that they are not a prudent choice.
Perenial massage aids in tissue elasticity, which can prevent a woman from tearing as bad or at all.

Yes, a local anasthetic is injected prior to cutting.

As far as how long it takes to heal? Sometimes women never feel the same, possibly experiencing pain with intercourse indefinitely.

Some women have this during birth. From what I've heard from friends/family members, the healing time isn't much different from when you rip naturally. I recently gave birth to my first child, and during my pregnancy my husband would massage and stretch my vagina area. I believe this helped. I tore just a little bit, but I didn't need an episiotomy. By they way, I had an epidural and by the time the pushing stage came, I didn't feel any pain.

They do that to keep it from tearing and ripping so it will heal better. Usually the delivery anesthetic keeps the area numb and it varies as to how long the healing takes, usually about 6 weeks.

Episiotomy is a small incision to widen up the area in order to facilitate the vaginal delivery.
It will heal in a week or so

I asked my midwife and she said 3months! I’m opting to tear as cutting can make it rip all the way down to ur butt
