Has the debate on revolutionary new fuel efficient propellers closed?

I didn't know there was a debate on this issue. It woould seem that propeller efficiancy is a good idea. Bird-Johnson manufactures this type of propeller for commercial applications. My experience with them is that the are great for going ahead, but don't produce a very good "back".
