I would guess that they are not thinking about the consequences. Perhaps you could put a sign on the door saying that you are sleeping and not to disturb you.

Not in thei house. If a door is shut and you want access then you knock first even if you think there is no one in the room.
It is only a case of having manors or not and most people now do not even know the meaning of the word

They do knock when you are sleeping but you don't hear them

I don't have that problem - the door is locked, so they have to knock either way.
