I'm a non smoker, and the smoking room is very close to me. bad enough the door is always open.... but now it seems the rules have really lapsed and people even smoke AT THEIR DESKS (its an open plan office - Boss included). I always stink of smoke - I hate it! I know I have rights, but I have just started this job - its an AWESOME job and I don't want to be hated or rock the boat - WHAT DO I DO???

Be the b*&%#h! Okay this may sound strange but Im a smoker but I cant stand it when Im in a non smoking area and other people smoke cause well, it does stink! Let be known Girl! b*&%#h, complain, whine and if you gotta cry! LOL! but u have right and if its already a rule and they have a smoking rule, gather the other non smoker and enforce it. If you have to then just go up the chain of command and make things right. Hell, they should be so lucky to even have a smoke room.

You don't say where you are in the world.
For the UK, and as far as I know at least the majority of the USA, smoking in the workplace is not allowed, and smoking rooms have to be used in such a way that the smoke does not affect no smokers, that includes shutting doors.
In fact many places only allow outside smoking areas now, not smoking rooms.
You have two choices, put up with it, or complain and threaten to take them to court if they don't enforce LEGALLY BINDING smoking policy

That's crazy. I'm a heavy smoker and even I get annoyed by other people smoking around me all the time. I'm not sure how you can get out of that one without making some sort of anonymous complaint to higher ups and hope they don't figure out it's you. In the US, I really didn't think that was legal. You can't even smoke in bars in NYC anymore...

As a smoker I understand completly that just because we smoke you should not have to put up with it. But I'm wondering where you're from because in the US you can't smoke anywhere inside except a bar
