I'm writing a story about a man who get addicted to drugs, but how can I make the story sound realistic and genuine, because I've never been around drugs or known people that have taken them... I don't want people to read my story and see that all the facts are wrong... I dunno, I guess I'm asking about specifics on what it's like to take heroin, like what does it feel like to first take heroin, and what does it feel like every time afterward, and what side effects does it have, and any other information about people who take drugs and stuff...

Go to a rehab center and talk with the patients and staff there, that'll be your best bet. Get the story straight from the people who have been there.

Another suggestion: Read books about heroin addiction. I'm sure there are heaps of recorded stories. Also, read William Burroughs' books - a famous author addict.

yes, i suggest you go to some rehab centers and listen to their stories and learn more about them.. I'm a photographer, and once i did a series of pictures about kids that are ill of cancer.. i went to hospitals and talked to these kids and their doctors. it was a very good experience not for the photos but also for me, because it really gives a different meaning to life and a different way of thinking about these issue.. it opens doors that weren't open to u before. Maybe the plot that u have in ur head will totally change... I really don't advise you to go and look for them in the streets, i think its really dangerous.. and good luck with your book

that's no longer needed to record likes and dislikes. perchance a touch element right here and there that would provide the reader a peek at something distinct about that personality. once you're having worry with a personality, carry out a touch "only for exciting" writing. Write that personality in a topic (with the exception of the tale) like a fender bender, a visit to the dr. for a attempt, or something like that and enable that personality educate you techniques she or he reacts to being in that subject. you would learn extra about them that way.

Maybe you need to interview a few people who are or were users. Just be careful though. If you get a former user thinking about getting high, you may knock them off the wagon. That would be a bummer.

There's an old adage about writing what you know -- probably so the story will be more genuine.
