Your ankle/foot may be sprained, broken or both. The snaps you heard could have been ligaments breaking (a severe sprain) and/or bones breaking (a fracture). It may be a good idea to see your family doctor for a proper evaluation.

For now, use lots of ice (ice water in a large bowl or bucket may be the most effective).

Best wishes and good luck.

I will tell you that a sprain hurts worse than a break. I sprung my ankle a couple of years ago and thought I heard a pop, it was just sprained.

Agree with first answer: Borrow some crutches or something to lean on, wrap your ankle with ace bandage to immobilize it and get to the emergency room for diagnosis. Should have an xray right away plus start taking care of the problem.

Call your doctor. If you ice the area, do not exceed 15 min. or 20 min. tops at a time just to be on the safe side (before you can get to your doctor and ask about frequency). Leaving it on ice too long can cause frostbite, more problems. I did 15 min. 2x per day. Should stay off that ankle as much as possible and elevate it, too.

You heard a snap, cannot bear weight on the ankle, and you have swelling and discoloration.... go to the hospital and get an x-ray. If you are waiting to avoid an emergency room, at least elevate it and put ice on it to reduce swelling.

I've heard of less that have caused fractures.

My husband broke his ankle a few years ago. But,his was turned all the way around(his foot). He had a Dirt Bike wreck. But,yours could be broken I'd definately have it checked out.If it's not broke it's probably sprained really bad. So,yes,go have it checked.
