If you ask me, they released their buggy product just to say that it came out before Nintendo's Wii. They knew their system was crap (come on, overheating and setting fire? no compatibility with PS2 games like they promised?), but Sony wanted to be all hip and new with their web browser and blu-ray player and whatever. I think it's lame to put out a machine that's obviously not ready to be on the market. Worst system release ever.
I'm such a Nintendo fangirl.

I agree with you on this one. There is a marketing strategy and a suppy issue, so Sony wins across the board.
Those of you saying the unit isn't worth 600.00 need to get out more and go to Best Buy and check out the Blue Ray player they have for 999.99
You can get that and it wont connect to the internet wirelessly.
It wont play next generation games and have 6 axis controllers
It wont do 50 other things the PS3 can do.
If it's still not worth it then you probably wont be owning one for a long long time, because the prices are not going to go down any time soon.. and any time soon is a few years at the very leasy!!
Either way, if you don't have a HDTV you might as well pass on both the PS3 and the 360. The experience is night and day.

1) Good marketing
2) Free News Reports (worth hundreds of millions)
3) Easier to catch & resolve problems
4) Easier to debug an active online network
Perfectly fine & smart. Most like me will be happy we waited untill it was widely available. By then (in a few months) we will have the final release. Right now you can consider is a 0.9. We will get the 1.2.
IF theres a widespred problem, its easier for Sony to fix a problem on 400,000 PS3s ,than it is for Microsoft to fix a problem on 7,000,000 Xbox 360s.

I like how everyone throws in their OPINION and doesn't talk the FACTS. If you look on the internets you'll see that R&D led them up pretty late into the cycle. So now that you have everything down pat...That factory you built to produce THE CELL Processor needs to get finished. As soon as the it gets finished now you need to start MAKING chips.....(Lots of problems with off-the-line BUM chips.) So how you going to watch movies in HD and play games if you can't GET ENOUGH BLUE DIODES FOR THE MACHINE?
I'm not covering their ***, I'm just as mad I didn't get one...(Sorry, Wii's for the kiddies) Hopefully I'll be able to get one from the next shipment before hell freezes over.....

they know what they're doing..they've been in this game for a long time. everyone knows PS3 is superior over the other 2 consoles. in the long run PS3 will beat out the compeititors and make more $$$. I was just at Circuit City earlier today and got to play with it...let me tell you it's an INCREDIBLE machine

They didn't do it on purpose. It happened because they simply couldn't produce that many. They over-estimated their ability to make the systems, didn't build enough factories, didn't hire enough people, had too many problems with errors, faulty parts, had to redesign at the last minute. We'll never hear of it, we can just assume.

Incompetence. Pure and simple. Just like with their battery fiasco recently. Sony is obviously incapable of getting their act together. Throw your money away on a PS3 if you've nothing better to do with it. I mean... how bad do they have to screw up before people catch on that their time has passed?

Supply and demand / and they are probably limiting the number of units for sell right out of the gate to see what kind of glitches arise.

Probably to increase market demand. Plus I think at first a lot of bugs are discovered, so they gotta fix those and then release another bigger batch of PS3's.
