Time travel to future is possible.
Time travel into the past is impossible. If it is possible, our present can be influenced by people coming from our future.
Certain solutions of Einstein's field equations of General Theory of Relativity suggests that one can travel into the past violating law of Causality. Stephen Hawking suggest that time travel into the past is not possible. One can kill his own father if travel into the past is possible.

Currently in our state of advancement, science views time travel as theoretically possible but practically impossible. It been shown that Einstein was right about the time dilation effect as it was evaluated that there were extremely small time difference between an earth based clock and another sent with astronauts into space. This shows that time travel forward is possible, but impractical because for the effect to be useful, a body would need to accelerate to close the speed of light.
Time travel backwards is a whole other ballgame, while some scientists theorize that it can happen, it usually would require an impossible event to take place, such as traveling faster than the speed of light. One theory states it might be possible by skimming the event horizon of a black hole, but again it only theoretical and not generally accepted.
Another possibility maybe is through traveling through a trans-dimensional wormhole that connects two different places in the time-space field. The problems with this is straightforward, there be no way to control, create or maintain such a structure. Even if wormholes do exist (are created and destroyed) in the sub-atomic space between matter, they do not exist in a way which can be used by scientists.
The fact is, we must remember that we still are learning about the universe, and that what we know can change and we could learn something that we never knew was possible before and such exotic ideas such as time travel would become possible.
This means that at the current knowledge of scientific knowledge, time travel is a practical impossibility and proof are even less able to prove its possibility.
There is also the fact that if time travel was possible, where are our visitors from the future, but then maybe they do not interfere with the growth of primitive civilizations. As a result, time travel is best classified as a concept of science fiction instead of science fact.

At this time in the history of mankind, time travel is just science fiction. However, many things that were once science fiction have become reality. For ex., traveling to the moon was once only science fiction. So were submarines and airplanes. So perhaps someday time travel will be a reality, since it is based on theories proposed by such scientists as Einstein.

How many people have you met from the future or from the past? Do you know of anybody who has met someone from the future or the past? If time travel is invented in the future, why hasn't anyone from the future, visited us now or in the past?
Time travel is just science fiction and it always will be.

Well..., u take a look at the night sky...
U r looking at the past!!!
Light takes millions of years to reach us from the far away galaxies...Today, wen we look at the night sky, essentially we r looking at the light generated by far away stars thousands of years ago!
Time Travel into the past??? :)
Look at farther and farther objects in the universe.... We r going backwards in time!!!
And yes, as others have pointed out.., time travel into the future is theoritically possible. (Einsteins Special Theory of Relativity allows this).
But for this to happen., we need to slow down time.... Possible only at high speeds... Speeds close to that of Light. (3*10^8 meters per sec)
