Hi, If there is a forest fire nearby the moon will be red. I have also heard that a red moon means it is going to be very hot the next day, which might be true because I have never seen a red moon in the winter time.

Its an eclipse This only happens when the moon is in the Earth's shadow. So in essence, the moon should be completly blacked out right? Wrong! What happens is, is that the light that hits the Earth from the sun, goes through atmosphere and wraps around the Earth and hits the moon. When the light passes through the atmosphere, it goes through the thickest part, and seeing as the color red is the longest wavelength of all colors, its the only one that can pass through the atmosphere without being deflected. This "red" light hits the moon and bounces back towards the Earth making the moon appear red.

The dust in the air and atmosphere in conjunction with the reflection of light can make the moon APPEAR to be red

I have seen the moon red once, its called a blood moon and it could happen from any location...its becoz of the noise in the athmosphere, its like a mirage, but its also becoz when youre on some psychedelic drugs the moon can appear all trippy and multi colored
