I'm confused.
Do people really believe that we live in the 'Last Days' or is it all to make us buy books, or vote a certain way, or contribute more to a church's plate, or even for some to put on a vest of grenades in the name of politics?
Do we panic? Do we prepare? Do we do nothing cause its beyond our control? Do we change our lives or stay the course?

It really depends. I think almost everyone can agree that there will be Last Days sooner or later. Whether they are because of God or the universe's collapse or whatever, they will come. Christianity teaches that Jesus Christ will come back. The time before this is known as the Last Days. Even during the time of the New Testament writers, they were calling their time the Last Days, which seems to just refer to the time between Jesus' first and second comings according to the New Testament. Jesus also talks about how no man will know the hour (which implies day, year, decade, etc.) when he will return, so a lot of the craze is simply trying to get money into people's pockets.
However, other signs, and I don't pretend to know all the details, seem to suggest that SOME (not all) of the Middle Eastern problems could indicate a SOON (ie...no date) return of Christ and thus the Last Days. It does seem that the time is ripe, so be ready for the end at any time.

Unfortunatly there is a nutjob in Iran wanting atomic weapons so he can bring it on, (his letter to America is like the directive muslims must first offer an infidel chance to convert or pay tribute before killing them),and certain groups who also want to bring it on by building the third temple on the mount in Jerusalem.
Don't panic, don't change your life in a way you can't sustain, or drop your life because "the end is near". Live your life as you see fit, but as for it being the end, you won't know until it gets here. And no, if true, as prophesized, there is nothing you will be able to do but pray. I look at it from the viewpoint that at some future time, for every living thing, the world will end to/for that individual organism, and that is all that matters. Making the most out of life, a life you won't be ashamed of, that is the key to life.

Since the beginning of recorded history, the end of the world has been predicted. Every generation thinks the apocalypse is coming within their lifetime. They'll be preparing for Armaggedon when my children's children's children are old. But if it ever does arrive, food and clean water will be more precious than gold and diamonds.

In 1982 the planets will line up on the same side of the sun. The alignment will cause a tremendous gravitational pull on the earth causing it to shift on its axis. This will essentially destroy life on earth as we know it. The gravitational effect is called the tubular effect. Remember this will happen in 1982.
This is just one of the things I grew up with. In 1973 the antichrist will come to power and noone will be able to buy or sell anything without the mark of the beast. All christians are doomed to starve to death.
I am sick to death of gloom and doom prophecy. We have always had hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes. Since the dawn of mankind there have been wars and rumors of wars. Life still goes on. It will until something major such as a meteor or a supervolcano occurs. I heard televangelists preach it all of my life and this friday I will be 40 years old. If I ever run into any of the prophets of my childhood I will smack the crap out of them.

It's a message of hope. People who predict that we are in the last days are unhappy and are hoping that something will happen to make all their troubles go away. They don't know how to solve their problems so they are hoping for Jesus to come and make all their troubles go away.

I believe we are living in the last days, but no one ever likes to listen to other peoples' opinions about religion. Mostly if it's not what they believe, it's crap. But I am willing to let people have their own religions and believe what they want to believe. But i'm not saying that all people are like that.
