Have a desktop with DSL, a Linksys WRT54G wireless Router and 2 laptops(1 connected wirelessly & 1 ethernet). WHEN we are connected it is fine but once or twice a day we get disconnected (although the network connections box says we're connected). If we reset the modems and router it will connect again for a while. Got sick of constantly having to reset connection, re-did installation and now the only way ANY computer can connect is the desktop hooked up DIRECTLY to the DSL modem. None of the puters work if the router is in the mix. Could it be the router? Does Linksys suck or what? Have tried resetting all of them, it works for less than 24 hrs, until today, now nothing when hooked to the router. DSL Co. says all is fine on their end. HELP! If I need to replace wireless router, what is the BEST with fastest connection and easiest set-up! Any realistic ideas appreciated!n Thank you very much!

I almost went that way as well, but at the last minute I switched and went with a wired Router. Many times we will have 4 systems going, and I just didn't feel like the Wireless Router would handle it. Si I did allot of splicing and ran the wires for everyone right on their ceilings and we have never had a bit of trouble. I feel that's the way to go, unless you only need one more system, and have paper thin walls.

The short answer is, yes, Linksys routers suck, but especially this model.
I have the same router and went through the EXACT same troubles. In fact, I spent quite a while researching the problem on the Linksys site, where many, many other people were going through the same problems. There were various solutions, the one that seemed the most promising was to change the powersupply to a better 12V unit, because apparently the one shipped with certain routers caused them to overheat and then periodically reset.
This did not work for me.
Initially, I was having to reset the router 1 time a day, then 2 times per day, I got fed up when it finally came down to 1 time per hour. I got rid of the router and replaced it with a Netgear (non-wireless). I have not had a single problem in over a year.
Forget the $50 you spent on the router and go get a Belkin or Netgear device.

All the models you listed have the features you need, name wireless security. You would still have to compare the specs though. If all the specs were the same, my rating from low to high would be Belkin > Netgear > DLink > Linksys Keep in mind that this is my opinion only. First decide on the specs. How much encryption it offers, what is the wireless speed, what is the range... You can also try googling the brand name with the word review for what others think. Like "Linksys router reviews"

Definitely a router problem. You may have reset the router one too many times. You might get lucky and only need to reflash the router. Go to the Linksys website and look for a firmware update that may solve your problem.

It sounds like the router is dying. I'd suggest getting a new one. Linksys is usually good brand, but routers don't last longer than a few years in most cases.

I'm going to start by saying I am not a techie, but my hubby is.

We had the same problem...we figured out that our wireless intercom system was interfering with the router. Once we got rid of that, we had no problems.
