Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister of India from January 19, 1966 to March 24, 1977, and again from January 14, 1980 until her assassination on October 31, 1984. She was the daughter of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Despite her famous last name, she was not related to the famous Mahatma Gandhi.
