I have asked a symilar question and the main answer i got was I'd know i was in labor or go to the hospital when i know I'm in labor.

with my first child if my mom hadnt made me go to the hospital i never would have known i was in labor (I NEVER HAD A PAIN OR A DISCOMFORT) not until the doctor broke my water (i was 8cm when i go to the hospital), then i had 3 feelable contractions and I had my son. (i lost my mucus plug at 6:30 and had my son by 9:45{no pain or other warnings that I was in labor)

with my 2nd and 3rd they were so close to the first and to each other they were a bit tougher because of my body being tired already.

now with my 4th over 4 years after having my 3rd, I'm worryied my fast painless labor will come back and I wont know i'm in labor till I have the urge to push.

I am just like you - I was two weeks over and they put me in the hospital to induce, first with the gel and then the IV drip. The nurses had that machine on my belly to monitor contractions, and kept asking "are you Kidding??? you don't feel that????"

I didn't - but apparently I was having very strong contractions.

When the ones came along that I COULD feel - Ie, the ones that made me scream bloody murder - I had ten contractions in the space of 50 minutes, and delivered my son. I would never have made it to the hospital on time.

I suggest that you go to the hospital on your due date, for a checkup if nothing else. Try putting your hand on your belly - although that did nothing for me, I still couldn't sense the contracations! And do have a plan in place - Husband can take you, or have yr neighbours ready, and 911 on speed dial. I hope you are lucky enough to have a labour like yr previous ones!

Congrats - from Samlet

If you think this situation may occur, then just prepare yourself for it. Make sure you have all things you may need for an immediate delivery on hand, even if it is just a bunny rug and towel you carry with you. Have a mobile phone always at hand and make everyone around you aware of what to do. Don't schedule anything that is unnecessary, like trips away, or any unnecessary appointments. Have phone numbers taped to the back of the phone so anyone around you can make necessary calls. Then try to relax as worrying wont help you. I am sure your baby and yourself will be fine.

That is completely crazy that you did not have any pain or feelings of labor with your first child. There are actual conditions that cause your body to suddenly dilate without warning. For some women it can happen early causing of course miscarriages. I would just watch for all possible signs of labor, like losing your plug or heavier discharge, back pain, etc. If you are close to your due-date call your doctor immediately.

Call your OB or ask at next apt. for their advice. I just barely made it to the hospital w/ my second, my water was only leaking for 30 or 40 min before we go there no contractions...I delivered in triage
