Well as far as the entire universe goes the hardest material known to man is the singularity of a black hole. But on earth it is hydrogen solid. While hydrogen gas by definition is the least "hardest" material known to man, hydrogen solid (frozen liquid hydrogen) is the most, even more denser than the carbon within a diamond. But at room temperature, diamonds are the hardest material known to man, and are readily available.
