Write the equation of the line L satisfying the given geometric conditions.
L has y-intercept (0, 2) and is perpendicular to the line with equation 2x – 3y = 6.

I have no clue as to how to even attempt this. I've been trying a bunch of different ways to solve it (ways that the textbook shows me to), and I keep comming up with illogical solutions. Please help!

2x-3y=6 is the same as y=2/3x-2

so in order to be perpendicular to this line, you must have slope -3/2

therefore L has slope -3/2 and has y-intercept of (0,2). so plug that into slope-intercept form

y=(-3/2)x+2

Okay, the key here is to first, get 2x-3y = 6 into slope-intercept form,

y = (2/3)x + 2

The product of the slopes of 2 perpendicular lines is -1.

So, the slope of the equation of the line L is -3/2. You're given the y-intercept, so...

y = -3/2x + 2

If you need it in standard form, multiply through by 2, and collect terms,

3x + 2y = 4

Two perpendicular lines have slopes that are the negative reciprocalsof each other.

The slope of your desired line will be the negative reciprocal of the slope of 2x - 3y = 6.

a line pependicular to 2x-3y=6 will have an equation
3x+2y+k=0
passes through (0,2)
so (0,2) must satisfy theequation
3(0)+2(2)+k=0
k=-4
so the eqution is
3x+2y-4=0

ok that's a stupid element, besides the undeniable fact that it backs up 'liitle Johnny' and his 5 + 5 = 11, I bear in mind this from well-known college, i think of we could have been six or seven. count quantity the finger on one hand, one, 2, 3, 4, 5. Then count quantity the palms on the different hand backwards, ten, 9, 8, seven, six. Six plus 5 equalls 11! stupid, besides the undeniable fact that it is going to annoy childrens who've found out to count quantity!
