America is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. A democracy is a system of unlimited majority rule, which denies individual rights. Why is it that most of our political and cultural (media and celebrity) leaders refer to America as a democracy?

no, if it became a democracy it would be the end of us all, the founding fathers knew this when they formed the government.

Because a republic is a form of Democracy.. it's a form of Representative Democracy with more limitations.. such as the limited terms for the President, etc....- Yes the US was always meant to be a democracy.. and as the country grew.. we realized some things needed to change and slowly we went from a Representative Democracy to a Republic- and no a Democracy does not deny individual rights- read up on it

Hitler's minister of propoganda, Goebbels said, "if you repeat a lie often enough, ppl will believe it."
I think Woodrow Wilson started the idea by saying that America had to make the world safe for democracy. He was sadly mistaken on two counts. America was not founded on the principle of democracy and second, it isn't America's responsibility to solve the rest of the worlds' problems. But that's what we've been doing for a hundred years and it's a big reason we are in the mess we're in. You are absolutely correct by stating that America was founded as a constitutional republic. But i'm afraid we've gotten so far away from that at this point that it would be impossible to bring it back.
And most of America's leaders are sadly responsible for the mess we're in. But we keep re-electing them!

What the United States is a representative democracy. We have direct elections for every job with the exception of President and Vice President(they use the Electoral College). In fact until recently, only the House of Representatives was directly elected, the Senate was appointed by the houses of each state. We are taught that we are a democracy simply because it is the lowest common denominator. That and because what we have is a form of democracy.

Okay.

Since we are not "really" a democracy and everybody has been lying to me about that, I hearby realize that it is a complete waste of time for me to go to the ballot box and vote. It is absolutely pointless for me to vote because I am just another one of the dim-witted nimrods who knows nothing about individual rights and when I vote the only thing I am doing is trampling on individual rights that I don't even know exist. So I promise to never vote again. I am too stupid to vote.

Duh.

Because they don't want a Republic and democracy is no longer operating as a mob rule anylonger but as a select few rule.

We are termed a democracy but unfortunately we didn't quite live up to letting the people have a say when we killed the Indians with our diseases and took their land. Democracy is such an oxymoron.
